Kandy — North Central Provincial Governor Dr.
Jagath Balasuriya assumed duties as acting Governor of the
Central Province yesterday (9).
Dr. Balasuriya was appointed by President
Chandrika Kumaratunga to fill the vacancy which fell vacant
following the death of Monty Gopallawa, recently.
Meanwhile, Central Provincial Council member S.
Arulsamy was sworn in before Dr. Balasuriya as Minister of
Industries, Sports, Youth Affairs, Rural Development, Tamil
Arulsamy of the Kandurata Peoples Front
succeeded V. Radhakrishnan who resigned from the portfolio with
the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) ceasing to support the UPPA
Chief Minister, Central PC Sarath Ekanayake,
provincial Ministers, Jayaratne Dissanayake, Ediriweera,
Weerawardena, Champika Wijeratne, Chief Secretary PG, Amarakoon
Secretary to the Governor Gamini Seneviratne were present.
