    Mahinda got Muslim votes, too

An impression is being created that Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse[MR] was elected by majority Sinhala Buddhist votes. But a careful analysis reveals that a substantial number of Muslims and Catholics voted for MR. A substantial number of Muslims in the east and the south of the country voted for Mahinda. A careful scrutiny of the results reveal upto 40% of the Muslims voted for Mahinda notwithstanding the fact the JHU was with him. A good number of Muslims of the east voted for Mahinda because they feared if Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe was elected he would grant more concessions to the LTTE and thereby endanger the existence and rights of the Muslims in the east.
