KANDY - A sixty-year-old pedestrian was killed at Gelioya when a jeep knocked him down on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjith Kumara.

The Pradeshiya Secretary of Hataraliyadde, G. K. Heenbanda, the alleged driver of the vehicle was held by Peradeniya police in connection with the accident.

He was later produced before the Kandy Chief Magistrate Harsha Sethunge who ordered a cash bail of Rs. 2000 pending further investigations.

The vehicle after knocking down the pedestrian had run off the road sustaining extensive damaged, police said.
