The Grama Niladhari of Maradankadawala, arrested
by Bribery sleuths for allegedly soliciting and accepting a
bribe of Rs. 14,000 was produced before the Kegalle Magistrate
and remanded till March 3. The GN had solicited the money to
issue two certificates to a person who was occupying State land
in Kekirawa. The officers of the Commission acting on the
complaint arrested the GN when he was accepting the money at the
Divisional Secretariat, Kekirawa, SP Neville Guruge, Director
Investigatons, Bribery Commission said.
Meanwhile in another bribery case last Thursday, a school
principal in Kegalle accused of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 10,000
to admit a child escaped detection as she had arranged a watcher
attached to the Provincial Education Office to accept the money.
When bribery sleuths accompanied the complainant to hand over
the money it was the watcher who had accepted the cash, SP
Guruge said. The suspect watcher was produced before the Kegalle
Magistrate and remanded till March 6.
