New Technical Cooperation Agreement with JICA

A new Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed recently between the Government of Sri Lanka and JICA which provides for a comprehensive coverage of all the projects in Technical Cooperation, a spokesman for JICA said.

A highlight of the new agreement is that experts, uinion members, senior volunteers, Japanese staff members of JICA Sri Lanka and their families will be exempted from fiscal charges and income tax.

The Sri Lankan implementing agencies would also provide the necessary counterparts, office facilities, transportation for official duties.

JICA also announced at the signing ceremony that it had completed 53 development studies, 24 technical cooperation projects, training of 6044 participants, dispatch of 1172 technical experts and 623 Japan overseas cooperation volunteers and 27 senior volunteers as of March, 2005.
