In a bid to solve the existing housing
problems among public servants,the National Housing Development
Authority (NHDA)has constructed 400 housing units in three
categories in Jaltara Homagama.President Mahinda Rajapaksa is
expected to inaugurate the housing scheme in April,2006.

Domingo told The Island Financial Review that Korean government
had granted Rs.700 million loan to NHDA on 2 per cent interest
to embark on this housing project and the loan could be paid in
20 years with a grace period of 10 years.
Referring to the three categories of the housing
units,Domingo explained that 400 units would consist of 3 and 4
storeyed condominiums in ABC models and added that category A
would consist of 1000 sq.ft with 3 bedrooms and required
facilities while the category B would consist of 750 sq.ft with
2 bedrooms. He said that the category A and B were for public
servants in executive positions as the category C housing units
comprising 550 sq.ft in economical models were for ordinary
Referring to the selection process of public servants,Domingo
said that the selection process had been completed and NHDA was
about to hand over the keys to occupants shortly.He also said
that NHDA had constructed 48 housing units for category A,134
units for category B and 208 housing units for category C.
When asked about the payment procedure,Domingo said that each
public servant selected to purchase housing units would have to
pay 25 per cent down payment and the balance could be paid in
monthly instalments in 20 years.
Domingo noted that the Selection Board had been formed by the
Ministry of Public Administration,Government Treasury and the
Ministry of Housing.According NHDA sources,public servants who
were without own lands and houses had been given priority to
purchase housing units at Jaltara.
