Two homeguards were killed in an LTTE claymore mine attack at
Avaranthulawa in the Chettikulam police area in Vavuniya,
yesterday.
The deceased have been identified as Danny Douglas and
Pushpakumara. They had, along with some other homeguards, had
been returning home after night duty when terrorists
simultaneously exploded three claymore mines.
The other homeguards, who escaped unhurt, fired back at the
fleeing terrorists but their fate was not known.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a hand bomb was detected on
the rail track in the Vavuniya station while two trains were
stationary on the adjoining tracks.
