SLMM’s first head passes away
Retired Norwegian Major-General and the first chief of the five-nation Nordic truce monitoring mission Trond Furuhovde passed away at 67, in Norway on Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Trond Furuhovde, who retired from his one-year service (March 2002 - Feb. 2003), returned to Sri Lanka again in February 2004, when the Norwegian government re-appointed him after a controversy in November 2004 involving his successor.

Maj. Gen. Furuhovde, an experienced monitor in international conflicts, had earlier served as the Force Commander of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from 1993 - 1995.
