Retired Norwegian Major-General and
the first chief of the five-nation Nordic truce monitoring
mission Trond Furuhovde passed away at 67, in Norway on
Wednesday.
Maj. Gen. Trond Furuhovde, who retired from his one-year
service (March 2002 - Feb. 2003), returned to Sri Lanka again in
February 2004, when the Norwegian government re-appointed him
after a controversy in November 2004 involving his successor.
Maj. Gen. Furuhovde, an experienced monitor in international
conflicts, had earlier served as the Force Commander of United
Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from 1993 - 1995.
