Banning animal slaughter and its logical
conclusion |
|
It is gratifying to note that
animal slaughter has been banned during Wesak week in honour of
the ‘Enlightened One’, the Buddha. It also happens to be the
2550th Buddha Jayanthi year. The ‘Great Teacher’ is also
referred to by Hindus as "Buddha Piran/Buddha Baghavan
(God). This thought should be extended to the theatre of armed
conflict in Sri Lanka during Wesak week, at least. The Buddha
connotation has a meaning for both the Sinhalese and Tamils.
Can’t this thought be extended to the larger theatre of life?
After all, man is the apex in the world of higher intelligence.
Can’t we sit down and deliberate on confrontational issues
like human beings?
