The Supreme Court yesterday refused the Bribery
Commission, special leave to appeal, against a Court of Appeal
judgement, which had also refused the Bribery Commission leave
to appeal, against a Colombo High Court judgement, acquitting
UNP Parliamentarian S. B. Dissanayake of all charges of bribery
and corruption.
Dissanayake was indicted by the Permanent
Commission to inquire Bribery and Corruption on an allegation of
heaving possessed earned unknown income, deemed to have been
acquired through bribery and corruption. The Colombo High Court,
acquitted Dissanayake of all accusations levelled against him.
The Bribery Commissioner, appealed to the Court
of Appeal. The appeal was refused by the Court of Appeal
consequently the Bribery Commissioner sought special leave to
appeal to the Supreme Court. The application was refused by the
Supreme Court yesterday.
