Development of East Beira Lake under the phase
II of Beira Lake Restoration Project and the Development of
Galle Face Green commenced under the advice and supervision of
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ports and aviation Mangala
Samaraweera on Thursday, May 25, at Beira Lake premises and
Galle Face Green.
Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake
participating at the opening of hoardings at Beira Lake and the
Galle Face Green development projects said that, the development
project to make Colombo a Port City, a concept of Minister
Samaraweera, was expected to be completed within six months.
"These types of development projects are
positive factors, which direct the country towards development,
along the paths of "Mahinda Chinthana," he said.
Meanwhile, immediately after an official foreign
visit, Minister Samaraweera made an inspection tour of Beira
Lake and Galle Face Green sites where the development activities
have been commenced. He also advised to use creative and modern,
urban development strategies and study such methodology in other
developed countries and implement them to make Colombo a
beautiful Port City.
Under proposed development activities at the
Galle Face Green, rehabilitation and replanting of Palm trees,
construction of a water fountain, improving the existing
irrigation system, introduction of the reinforced grass to green
the area, construction of a pier, food outlets, public toilets
and parking areas, improving of lighting and establishment of a
zoning system will also be done.

Thilak Collure, Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA)
Saliya Wickramasooriya, Vice Chairman R. M. P. B. Wickrama,
Executive Director Dr. Irshad Musheen, Director (Technical) S.
H. Liyanage and many officers of SLPA were also present at the
occasion.
