The Court of Appeal on Tuesday reserved order in
respect of the interim relief sought by the Citizens Committee
for Good Governance who had challenged the President’s decision
to appoint members to the Public Services Commission and the
National Police Commission, without consulting the
Constitutional Council.
The petitioner contended that the Seventeenth
Amendment to the Constitution needs the President to seek the
opinion of the Constitutional Council and the aforesaid act is
unconstitutional.
Elmore Perera appeared for the petitioner.
Senior State Counsel Nerin Pulle appeared for
the Attorney General.
The interim relief sought to restrain the
operation of the PSC and the NPC, until this case is determined.
