Baby girl missing from Kalubowila hospital
Hospital director, nurse summoned to Court

The Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Padmini N. Ranawake Gunatillake has issued notice on the Director Colombo South Hospital and Chief Nurse in Charge of the connected ward to attend Gangodawila Court on June 30 to inquire into the case of a missing seven month old baby girl.

The Magistrate also ordered the SSP Mount Lavinia Police to conduct inquires and furnish a full report regarding this incident. The Crime Prevention Bureau was given authority to arrest the suspects and produce them before courts in accordance with the facts placed by the probation officer Mount Lavinia E. A. Ajith Piyanandana.

The Officer in Charge of Borelesgamuwa Police Sub-Inspector Jayanath informed court April 23 last year that they were informed of a two day old baby girl lying on the ground at a spot near the 10th mile post in Borelesgamuwa.They found the baby girl and handed her over to the Colombo South Hospital for treatment.

The court thereafter gave orders to the Director Colombo South Hospital to hand over the baby to the Prajapathi Child Care unit Panadura after giving the required medical treatment.

Mr. Ajith Piyanandana subsequently informed the authorities that the child after being given medicaltreatment had not been handed over to the child care home. Thereafter Deputy Director of the Colombo Hospital informed courts that the child was reported missing from the ward around 1.30 p.m on January 14 and there was no trace of her .

Further hearing was put off for June 30, 2006.
