CTB has not served its  purpose -ACTWU

The All Ceylon Transport Workers’ Union complains that no useful purpose has been served to the commuting public and the state sector transport workers by the establishment of the CTB.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of Railways and Transport Ministry, the Union states that despite the appointment of a powerful committee to advise the Minister and the Board of Directors of the SLCTB, the committee has still not been provided with the necessary infrastructure facilities. It accused the Ministry Secretary for the failure.

As a result of this failure, unwanted promotions have been effected in the SLCTB head office, regional offices and in bus depots. The union further charges that corrupt depot managers are plundering this national treasure but transport authorities are dumbfounded over this massive waste and corruption, it said.

The failure to disband the cluster bus companies has resulted in several appointments being made to these bus companies by the Finance Ministry it said while requesting the Transport Secretary to intervene and call for the cancellation of these appointments. (.S.S)
