President Mahinda Rajapakse has appointed Air Marshall Donald Perera as the Chief of Defence Staff. He assumes duties in his new post on Monday. Air Marshal Perera will be elevated to the rank of Air Chief Marshal.

Asked for his comments about the new office, Donald Perera said "its too early to comment about the new seat. But its an office where you have to be fully committed."

Air Marshall Perera relinquishes his command of the Sri Lanka Air Force at a ceremony scheduled for tomorrow evening. Air vice Marshal Roshan Gunatillake who is the current Chief of Staff of the Air Force will assume duties as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force on 12 June and he will be elevated to the rank of Air Marshal.
