Rs 575,000 spent on Nuwara Eliya estate schools

Deraniyagala: P. Digambaram, Member Central Provincial Council said that he had spent Rs. 575,000 from the funds allocated to him for various projects in Nuwara Eliya District estates.

Ther project includes the supply of electricity to schools and kovils, tarring of approach roads to estates, providing tents to estates, supply of chairs, musical instruments to estate schools and supply of building material to schools and estate kovils.

"I hope to donate chairs and other materials required by Plantation, Education and Cultural Association (PECDA) in Deraniyagala on an appeal made by the PECDA President."

Digamberam said that though he is new to the Deraniyagala area, he was impressed by the active social work of PECDA, which has organised a Computer Training Institute for the benefit of estate children of Indian origin. He also thanked Deshamanya Dr. Lalith Kotelawala, Chairman of Seylan Merchant Bank for the donation of computers and Indian High Commissioner Nirupama Rao for other assistance provided to PECDA.
