Parami killed in terror attack
Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army
Major General Parami Kulatunga and three others were killed in
an LTTE suicide bomb attack at Pannipitiya yesterday (26). He
was on his way to Army Headquarters at around 8.00 a.m.
This
lady, who while passing through, stopped her van (on
right) believing an accident had occured but when
informed of the bomb blast offered to take the injured
to the National Hospital.

Energy control planned
In a bid to prevent around 25 per cent energy
waste annually, a National Energy Conservation Programme will be
introduced by Ministry of Power and Energy.
Power and Energy Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne told The Island
that a majority of people in Sri Lanka were unaware of the
energy sources used to generate electricity and as a result
energy wastage had been going on unabated, this an appropriate
alternative source to generate electricity was necessary.

General Parami Kulatunga Major
General Parami Kulatunga was an old boy of the Trinity College
Kandy. He joined to the Sri Lanka Army on July 20, 1971 and was
commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of the First Battalion,
Gemunu Watch on October 14, 1972.
General Kulatunga served in a number of staff
officer posts - General Staff Officer, Deputy General Officer
(Commanding), Director Training at Army Head quarters in 1996
and Head Deputy General Officer for Mirusuvil and Elephant Pass
between 1997 and 1998. He also served as General Officer
Commanding of 52nd Division at the same time.
Urban challenges for Sri Lanka’s development and Indian
connection
Economic Planners claim that Sri Lanka’s
development should grow at around 8 to 10 per cent per annum for
at least a decade, in order to overcome the twin problems of
unemployment and low per capita incomes. This rate has however
eluded Sri Lanka. While it has been going up and down, on
average it has hovered around 5 per cent per annum. It appears
as if there is a hoodoo to attaining a higher rate of sustained
economic growth.
