In a bid to prevent around 25 per cent energy
waste annually, a National Energy Conservation Programme will be
introduced by Ministry of Power and Energy.
Power and Energy Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne
told The Island that a majority of people in Sri Lanka were
unaware of the energy sources used to generate electricity and
as a result energy wastage had been going on unabated, this an
appropriate alternative source to generate electricity was
necessary.
Seneviratne said that it was important to
utilise modern electrical equipment instead of obsolete ones and
added that with the installation of modern electrical equipment
the CEB would be capable of streamlining the electricity supply.
Minister Seneviratne said that refregirators and electric
fans consumed more power. The time had come to rationalise
electricity consumption and it was a national duty of people to
reduce electricity consumption by 25 per cent to face the
existing energy crisis.
