Wanni Tigers dodged Karuna confrontation
Contrary to reports, the LTTE Vanni faction is believed to have side-stepped Wednesday’s operation conducted by Karuna loyalists in the dense jungles of the Ampara district.

  • Court suspends CMC order
    The Court of Appeal yesterday suspended a decision taken by the District Engineer, Colombo Municipal Council, to demolish buildings constructed on the pavements, in Colombo 15, within seven days from August 26, 2006. The court issued notice on the Colombo Municipal Commissioner and the District Engineer to be present in Court on September 22, 2006, in respect of a petition filed by eight persons, who had constructed trade stalls, along the pavements, in Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha, Colombo 15.

  • Children hurt in LTTE mine attack
    A claymore mine blast wounded a police officer and six civilians in Vavuniya yesterday. The mine exploded around 7.00 a.m. near a three-wheeler at Vavuniya where the body of a civilian was found, a senior police officer said.
