Children hurt in LTTE mine attack

A claymore mine blast wounded a police officer and six civilians in Vavuniya yesterday. The mine exploded around 7.00 a.m. near a three-wheeler at Vavuniya where the body of a civilian was found, a senior police officer said.

The mine had been strapped to the three-wheeler. The wounded included two school girls. "They triggered the blast from a distance," the official said.

Police found a critically wounded home guard at Vavuniya. Police said that the home guard and a civilian identified as S. Somapala were abducted by the LTTE earlier. The wounded home guard, with severe head injuries, had been admitted to hospital`A0`A0`A0`A0

Terrorists fired at Muhamalai entry and exit point around 5.30 am. Army headquarters said that one soldier received serious injuries. The wounded soldier was later airlifted to Colombo.

Meanwhile, one soldier was killed and six soldiers, including three Officers, were forced to seek admission to hospital after they were wounded in LTTE mortar and artillery fire in Muhamalai, Kilali and Neravilkulam in Jaffna.
