The Management Club, operating under the
auspices of The Chartered Management Institute-UK, Sri Lanka
Branch initiated a noteworthy national programme under its arm
of Corporate Social Responsibility in the November 2002 – to
make Sri Lanka a disabled-friendly nation by creating awareness
of the plight of the disabled, now amounting to over 1.7 million
citizens of Sri Lanka and to facilitate the provision of equal
opportunities for the disabled.
Enable the Disabled, or ETD as it is popularly
known is partnered not only by the members of corporate
entities, but also by the Government, the NGO and INGO sectors
and concerned and well meaning public and private sector
individuals and organizations.
The programme is divided into two categories
-`A0 empowering the disabled and changing the attitude towards
the disabled. Under the category of empowering the disabled ETD
has identified the need for finding suitable employment for
persons with disabilities most of whom are employable in many
areas. This plan of action has been going on for the last two
years and there are few disabled candidates who have been
already employed through this programme of ETD.
In order further broad base this activity ETD
has appointed a dedicated position to oversee and plan out a
stratergy as Director employment who is a member of the EXCO fo
ETD. The first task is to establish a DATA BASE of employable
disabled candidates, after which the candidates will be
categorized into different fields depending on their disability
/ skills and educational levels.
Thereafter ETD will work very closely with many
potential corporate sector employers and encourage them to
employ a certain percentage of disabled candidates .
ETD is now calling applications from employable
disabled Candidates to set up the DATA BASE and any one could
send the applications to the below address.
