Commonwealth- Sri Lanka Investor Roundtable to address business delegations
Promoted as destination for investment

Government in its efforts to attract more foreign investments to the country has organized Commonwealth- Sri Lanka Investor Roundtable which will be held tomorrow at the Central Bank Auditorium.

Board of Investment (BOI) in showcasing Sri Lanka as a destination for investment, a large number of business contingents are expected to participate along with the respective Finance Ministers, Senior State Officials involved in investment related activities and leading personalities of the Commonwealth nations.

According to BOI, the round table discussions will be represented by the local business personalities and Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Minister Rohitha Bogollagama will chair the event with Chief Secretary to the Treasury of the United Kingdom Stephen Timms MP as the Chief Guest. Other speakers at this session will include BOI Director General and Chairman Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala, Commonwealth Business Council Director of Programmes Gregor McKinnon, Central Bank of Sri Lanka Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal who would elaborate on Sri Lankan economy and Head of the Commonwealth Business Delegation and Shell Company UK Chairman James Smith.

The roundtable will then move on to cover vital issues relating to investment followed by panel discussion on Corporate Governance and on the steps that nations need to take to build investor confidence. This special session will be headed by Head of the Commonwealth Business Delegation and Shell Company UK Chairman James Smith. Ernst & Young Senior Partner Asitha Talwatte and Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka Director General Channa De Silva will also be present.

The next session will examine the modalities and conditions necessary for the Sri Lankan private sector to build ties with international business. The participants in the panel will include West Asia and Africa of Bajaj Auto General Manager Ashok Saxena, Dialog Telekom Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, Mott McDonald Group Business Development Director Kevin Stovell, Brandix Holdings Deputy Chairman Ajith Dias, ICICI Bank General Manager International Operations Bhargav Dasgupta, and Flintec Transducers Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rune Flinth. A discussion will also follow involving De la Rue Currency Managing Director James Hussey and Sri Lanka Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Nawaz Rajabdeen.

The Roundtable is part of a series of events linked to the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Conference that is held in Colombo this week. Another important event will be the two day exhibition on Sri Lanka economy, which will be opened on September 13, 2006 at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel where members of this delegation will be able to see the economic potential of Sri Lanka as destination for business and investment. - AH
