Pottuvil massacre survivor says LTTE responsible
by Dasun Edirisinghe

The only survivor of the Pottuvil massacre, Kareem Meera Mohideen reiterated that his 10 colleagues were killed by the LTTE on September 17 at Radella in Pottuvil.

Last Friday when the Sunday Island visited Mohideen still under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Ampara General Hospital, he said the group of armed attackers spoke Tamil. "The Sinhala troops never resort to such brutal killings."

"We went to Radella by tractor. My job was to prepare meals in the evening. Suddenly, a group of persons wearing black trousers and talking in Tamil came towards us and said that we were wanted by their chief," he recalled.

"We were then blindfolded two at a time and taken away," he said.

Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Dr. Lankathilaka Jayasinghe said that Mohideen’s neck has severe knife cuts and some valves in the throat had been damaged as a result. "We will be able to discharge him within two weeks."
