Sri Lanka Communist Party yesterday
withdrew its petition against the publisher of ‘Maubima’
newspaper for using the trade name ‘Maubima’. The petitioner
Weliwita Arachchige Dharmadasa a member of the Communist Party
sued B. M. Dushyantha Bandara for publishing a newspaper ‘Maubima’,
and on the grounds that the word ‘Maubima’ was the name of the
official paper of his party.
The Commercial High Court had issued an enjoining order
restraining the usage of the name for the paper. Later the
Supreme Court suspended it.
Yesterday the lawyers for the petitioner made an application
to withdraw the petition.
Commercial High Court Judge K. T. Chitrasiri allowed the
petitioner to withdraw the petition.
