A major trade union grouping wants the
government to take urgent measures to curb unbridled corruption,
waste and mismanagement at SLPA, Railways, CPC and CEB. Harbour,
railways, petroleum, electricity. The combined trade union
alliance in a letter addressed to President Mahinda Rajapakse
claimed that contrary to their expectations no tangible action
had been taken to improve the situation.
The union called for immediate presidential
intervention while blaming both ministers in charge of the
portfolios and senior officials turning a blind eye.
The union also called for a mechanism to ensure
security at these institutions in view of the growing threat
posed by the LTTE. (SF)
