Diyawadana Nilame of Kandy, Tilanga Dela Bandara,
said that the people in Sri Lanka are well civilised. "Not in
terms of wealth but they have achieved civilisation through
religion, dhamma, culture, good living and kind manners," he
said.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Wattegama
temple he said "development is not wealth, or the material
things like houses and properties. But good habits and patriotic
feelings towards masses, attain high standards automatically.
These values are increased through Daham education which is
imparted to children."
He said there were special programmes introduced
by the Sri Dalada Temple. "We must make it a practice to keep
close relationships with the children who attend these Daham
schools."
Ven. Maningamuwe Piyaratana Thera said "there
are a number of NGOs trying their best to ruin the Daham
education imparted by these Daham schools, Hence, the parents
must play a prominent role to encourage their children to attend
these schools.
"The Daham schools not only impart knowledge to children by
way of teaching the good habits and good living, but also help
children to get an all-round education by providing technical
and information technology through various means of programmes
that are freely available through Daham schools. The
encouragement we received from the Sri Dalada Maligawa are
immense to carry on our work, the Diyawadana Nilame said. (gp)
