Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) empowers
local hotels by providing Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) Mobile
Internet Zone, popularly known as a Wi-Fi Hotspot, in Sri Lankan
local hotels.
Wi-Fi is a wireless broadband network which is simple to
access, easy to use and does not require a waiting period to set
up or preparation that is typically needed for cable based
broadband systems such as Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL). All
that is needed to utilize this service is to wander into "SLTnet
Wi-Fi Internet Zone" and authenticate their connection using the
required SLT Wi-Fi prepaid card for instant access to the
internet via this mobile access network by zero configurations.
With the "SLTnet Wi-Fi Internet Zone" not only customers but
employees of all these hotels also can be continuously online.
Hotel Blue Waters in Wadduwa, Light house Hotel in Galle, Beach
Hotel in Negombo, Inn on the Green pub in Hotel Galle face,
Earls Regency Hotel in Kandy, are some of the hotels that tied
up with SLT to obtain this facility. These new clients of SLT
will be capable of accessing up to 2 Mbps, depending on the
traffic handled by the network at any given time, which is even
greater than speeds available through residential broadband
facilities such as DSL [ADSL]. SLT Wi-Fi "Hotspots" can be
utilized by those in a certain area who have a laptop with a
Wi-Fi enabled PC card or a hand held device with a Wireless
Local Area Network (WLAN) adapter. There will also be a need for
authentication once a person is online in the network so that
they can access the Internet. Access to the wireless web through
this network can be obtained through the purchase of a prepaid
SLT Wi-Fi internet access card which is available at the hotel
reception counters for card value of Rs. 200/= & Rs.400/=
