Garbage to be converted into fertilizer
Kalutara: Lalith Ellawala (UPFA) addressing the media on a series of development projects proposed to be implemented in the Bandaragama PS Division, said that Galpatha, a densely populated area in the Bandaragama electorate, has been neglected by successive governments.

"A crash programme will be implemented to provide better facilities and the basic needs of the people would be fulfilled by the P.S."

He said that a Carbonic Fertilizer project to convert garbage into fertilizer would be commissioned soon, so that there would be no garbage problem in the urban areas of Bandaragama.

"Carbonic fertilizer will be manufactured from garbage and would be sold to the Department of Agricultural Services at Rs. 24 per two kilogramme pack. This would solve the garbage problem in the Bandaragama P.S. division."

He said that a building at Delderagahawatta, Millaniya to manufacture carbonic fertilizer has been put up.

"The preliminary expenses for the project was received from the W. P. P. C.Further Rs. one million has been allocated by the WPPC.Estimated cost of the project is Rs. 2.5 million."

He said that when the project commences garbage from Alubomulla to Colombo would be accepted and with the approval of the Commissioner of Local Government additional employees would be recruited by the PS to carry out the project.

The objective of the project is to keep the Urban area clean and tidy, he said.
