Chamara Kapugedara of Dharmaraja College, Kandy
and W.P.C. Dilhani Wijeratne of Jinaraja Girls’ School, Gampola
won the awards for the Most Outstanding Performance for the year
2005, at the Sri Lanka Schools Colours Awards ceremony held at
Ananda College Auditorium, yesterday.
Chamara received the awards for his excellence
performance in cricket while Dilhani was recognised for her
abilities in judo.
Meanwhile, Dinuka Karunaratne and W. Nadeesha
Dilhani de Silva of Royal College and Kalutara Balika
respectively were named as the Emerging Sportsman and
Sportswoman for their performances in badminton and netball.
Two hundred and eleven sportsmen and 132
sportswomen representing 119 schools received awards for their
outstanding contribution to sports during the year 2005. The
Western Province schools obtained 59 awards while Central
Province schools received 21 awards.
Former Sri Lanka cricket captain and Member of
Parliament, Arjuna Ranatunga graced the occasion as the chief
guest and presented the awards. Norman Kannangara, Marketing
Manager of Nestle Lanka Ltd was the guest of honour.
