Sheer determination and team work brought
Trinity College a fine 3-1 victory over their arch rivals Royal
College in their annual hockey fixture played at the Asgiriya
International Stadium in Kandy, yesterday. Thus Trinity retained
the J.C.A. Corea Trophy for the fourth year in succession.
At short whistle the winners led 2-1
Skipper Subramanium Krishanthan and V.V.
Rajmohan delivered the goods for the ‘lions’.
It was the Royalists who opened the account in
the third minute of play when their centre forward, Malan
Senanayake sounded the boards. Trinity equalised in the 20th
minute when Krishanthan scored a goal and minutes before half
time it was Sri Lanka Junior skipper Rajmohan who increased the
lead for the home team with a fabulous goal.
Though the Reid Avenue boys threatened to bounce
back their aimless hits cost them dearly. Trinity playmaker
Rajmohan put the icing on the cake in the dying stages of the
game with another forward goal.
M.A.M. Ashraff and G.G. Dhramaratne umpired.
In the junior game Royal beat Trinity 2 goals 1
to retain the Paul Jeyaraj Trophy for the fourth year in
succession.
The Chief Guest, Paul Jeyaraj, presented the
Corea Trophy while the junior challenge shield was presented by
Wasantha Silva of the Royal College Hockey Club.
