Malaysia dished out a stunning performance at
the last day of Sri Lanka International Satellite Badminton
Championship, at Royal College Sports Complex yesterday. The
final day of the championship was a good show of Malaysian and
Indian players as all the final matches were between Malaysia
and India. India won the mixed double and womenís double final
while Malaysia won all other finals of the championship.
Malaysia brilliantly won the finals of menís
single, menís double , womenís single and became the runners up
of rest final matches. In the menís single Lim Kenn excelled
over Tan Chun Seang 3-2 (22/20, 18/21, 21/8) while Wong Julia
won the womenís single beating Murugunde Trupti 3-2 . Goh Ying
Jin and Mohd. Razif Abdul Rahman beat Khoo Chun Chiat 3-2
(18/21,21/14,21/19) in the menís double.
The most highlighted match of the day was the
mixed double final. Newly married Indian badminton couple Anand
Chetan and Gutta Jwala ripped through Chan Peng Soon and Haw
Chiou Hwee of Malaysia 3-2 after a keen tussle (21/10, 15/21,
21/18). This was the first time that an Indian couple played a
mixed double in an international match.
Jwala also won the womenís double with her
partner, Kurien Shruti against Haw Chiou Hwee and Lim Yin of
Malaysia 3-2 (21/15, 14/21, 22/20).
