SB to take to streets
by Norman Palihawadena
The UNP Reformists were at the end of their
tether, as the UNP was not doing enough for the people, who had
to suffer in silence due to high cost of living and many other
problems, UNP MP S. B. Dissanayake told The Island
yesterday. He said he was prepared to take to the streets for
the sake of the people who needed solutions to their burning
problems.
He said the SLFP-UNP MoU had failed to solve the
problems of the people. Nor had it been effective enough to help
find a solution to the conflict. Besides, he said, there were
many instance of political victimization, which the UNP
leadership didn’t heed.
He said he and other Reformists had been moved
by the increasing helplessness of the people who had pinned
their hopes on the Opposition.
"The Opposition must play its role effectively
and efficiently for the benefit of the people and improve their
living conditions. But I don’t think the MoU has served their
purpose," Mr. Dissanayake said.
Asked when he would launch his protest campaign,
he said he would make an announcement in due course.
