Sacking of Vittachchi
Court restrains Harry J

Colombo District Court judge Aruna Ranasinghe
yesterday issued an order against Harry Jayawardene restraining
the dismissal of V.P. Vittachchi from his post of Chairman of
Stassen Exports.
The ruling was on a petition was filed by V.P.
Vittachchi against Harry Jayawardene before the District Court.
Harry Jayawardene is the majority shareholder of the Stassan
Group. Vittachchi held office as the Chairman of Lanka Milford
Exports Limited and Stassen Group.
Sources said that Jayawardena had sacked
Vittachchi from his posts last Wednesday.
He had called an Extraordinary General Meeting
of Milford Exports Limited to appoint his wife Jacinta
Priyadarshini Jayawardena and Royle Jansz, a director at
Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka Limited as directors of
Milford Exports Limited. The petitioner had expressed his views
against the move to appoint new directors.
The petitioner alleged that he was unlawfully
dismissed from his post in Stassen Exports. He pleaded the Court
to restrain Harry Jayawardene from dismissing him, and to issue
an enjoining order until the matter is decided by the Court.
The Court restrained the defendant Jayawardene
from dismissing V.P. Vittachchi from his post till January 11.
Counsel G.G. Arulpragasam appeared for the
petitioner.
