Norway to continue its good work in Sri Lanka
Ambalantota: Norway has for the last twenty years through NORAD
funded the Hambantota integrated rural developing programme. NORAD has become a
household word in the district, Norwegian Ambassador Hans Brattskar told ‘The
Island’.
Norway has provided funds to a broad range of projects including
support to small and medium enterprises and also had invested to improve
infrastructure of the region.
The ambassador said Norway had also brought about
environmentally friendly efficient production methods in the industrial sector
in Hambantota district, and increased the living standards of women and their
families though micro credit schemes and improved housing provided to people in
the plantation sector.
Norway had also continued to support the tsunami stricken people
in Hambantota district and committed over Rs. 6 billion for the relief work.
He said Norwegian Development Corporation would continue its aid at the same
level in 2007 as in 2006.
