‘Nilam’ editor shot dead

Police said that unidentified gunmen on April 16 shot dead Subash Chandraboas, the Editor of the Tamil monthly magazine ‘Nilam’ (the Ground).

The 32-year-old Chandraboas, father of an eight-year-old daughter was shot dead at around 7.30 p.m at his residence at Thirunavatkulam, Vavuniya.  

The victim is a former student of the first batch of the College of Journalism and had also undergone a one-month training at the Virakesari newspaper.

He had served the London based magazine ‘Tamil World’ as a freelance journalist until last month. 

Chandraboas owned a printing press in Vavuniya and had always had a passion for literature, the Free Media Moment said.

According to the FMM the assassins has spoken both Tamil and Sinhala. "We are appalled by this killing. Although the reason for killing him is not clear, the FMM fears that this could be another attack on journalists and media personal working in North and East."

FMM urged the government to investigate this murder and bring the culprits to book.
