North Central Province Chief Minister Berti
Premalal Dissanayaka has said that if there are any
irregularities in the volunteer teachers lists prepared by a
special committee, appointed by the North Central Provincial
Council, he will tender his resignation immediately.
He was answering charges made by the Opposition
that there were irregularities in the lists.
Chief Minister Dissanayaka said the volunteer
teachers lists had been given to Education Minister Susil
Premjayantha for his review. The lists had been prepared with
the approval of the North Central Provincial Council and a
committee and if there were any sort of irregularities them, the
committee had to be accountable.
Dissanayaka said it was a common for the
opposition to indulge in mud-slinging campaigns against the
government. To solve the acute shortage of teachers in the
province, action had been taken to make 1,490 volunteer teachers
permanent.
