A splendid effort by flanker Thilan Bulner
helped defending champions St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya to
a convincing 67-0 victory over Thurstan College, Colombo in
their inter school Div. I Segment I Singer League rugby
tournament match played at Longden Place on Saturday.
St. Peter’s, who won the grand double last
season have remained unbeaten this year and look set to emulate
the efforts of last season.
The Petes earned their points off 6 goals and 5
tries and led 15-nil at lemons.
The first twenty minutes of play left St.
Peter’s supporters disappointed with the champion outfit unable
to score a single try, but that was not an indication of things
to follow.
In the second-half, the tempo changed completely
with St. Peter’s planting tries with no trouble at all.
Bulner was crafty in all his moves and scored 25
points, penetrating the Thurstan defence at will. His colleague,
Sharo Fernando scored two tries while skipper and scrum-half
Ranuka Jayasinghe, lock-forward Samson Roy, hooker Roshan
Fernando and fullback Viduranga Karunaratne piled on the total
with a try apiece. Harsha Weerakkody successfully goaled four
tries while fly-half Irfath Meedin fired over two conversions.
