Suntel has marked a milestone in its association
with Sri Lankan sports with the sponsorship of ten leading
schools rugby sides.
Suntel will be the main sponsor of St. Peter’s
College, Wesley College, Isipatana College, St. Joseph’s
College, Trinity College, Royal College, S. Thomas’ College,
Thurstan College, Ananda College and St. Anthony’s College first
XV rugby sides for the 2007 school rugby season.
The sponsorship is a reflection of Suntel’s
commitment to extend its support to the young sporting talent of
Sri Lanka and to develop the game of rugby in the country. By
enmeshing itself with schools rugby teams, Suntel hopes to
create greater opportunities for young sportsmen while also
building a pool of talent from which the country can draw on for
the future. The sponsorship will give a fillip to each
individual school to develop the game within the school. The
effect of the sponsorship will no doubt cascade to all levels of
rugby within each school, with opportunities for better
coaching, facilities and gear.
Director, Marketing and Sales of Suntel, Hasitha
Abeywardene said, "By fostering rugby at school level, we hope
not only to create a vibrant rugby culture in Sri Lanka, but
also to instill in these young players the values of
sportsmanship and fair play. Sport is known to build character
–- giving youth the sense of belonging and the discipline
required to succeed in life. We also hope that this sponsorship
will help in some small way to keep the enthusiasm alive in Sri
Lanka for rugby at a high level."
