Funeral of former AG to be held at Borella cemetery today

The funeral of the late former Attorney-General K. C. Kamalasabayson PC will take place at Borella cemetery today. He died on Sunday morning at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, South India. He was 58 years old.

Mr. Kamalasabayson served as the Attorney General of Sri Lanka since 1999 till his retirement in 2007.

K. C. Kamalasabayson, was born in Trincomalee town on April 8, 1949. He had his secondary education at St. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia and entered the Sri Lanka Law College passing with First Class Honours Pass at the Advocates Final Examination in 1971.

He was enrolled as an Advocate of the Supreme Court on 23rd of June, 1972. He joined the Attorney-General's Department on August 01, 1974 as a State Counsel. Prior to that he was a member of the unofficial Bar for about two years. He worked as a junior to H. V. Perera QC and E. R. S. P. Coomaraswamay. Later in 1984, he was appointed Senior State Counsel and was promoted to the post of Deputy Solicitor General in 1990. In 1997 he was honoured with the title of President's Counsel. In 1998 he was appointed Solicitor-General. A few months later, in October 1999, he was appointed Attorney General.

He held two Master's Degrees from the University of Colombo and from King's College, University of London. He also served as a lecturer in law. He was a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo and Sri Lanka Law College. He was a member of the Council of Legal Education of Sri Lanka since 1998. He added a few more qualifications with his completion of Legal Advisors' course at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies at the University of London, International Contract Negotiation course at the International Law Institute in Washington USA, and also a course in Construction Contracts at the International Development Law Institute of Rome in Italy.
