The National IT-BPO Leadership Awards 2007
ceremony, jointly organized by the Information and Communication
Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), was successfully
concluded on August 31. The event was preceded by the first
National IT-BPO Capacity Summit attended by over 250 IT-BPO
industry professionals and leaders to endorse a common national
strategy to build human resource capacity in the industry.
The Leadership Awards took shape to award the
Most Outstanding CEO, Most Outstanding Entrepreneur and three
outstanding Young ICT Professionals from the IT-BPO industry.

The Most Outstanding CEO award was presented to
Kris Canekeratne in light of the significant contribution he has
made to the industry and for leading and positioning Virtusa
Corp. as a global company. In this inaugural year of staging the
annual IT-BPO Leadership Awards, there is no doubt that the
stature of Canekeratne will bring prestige to the award, rather
than the award itself.
Bagging the Most Outstanding Entrepreneur Award,
Harsha Purasinghe of Microimage - a software research and
development company, was recognized as a commendable
entrepreneur in the ICT sector, who has started small, taken
business risks, and successfully exploited market opportunities
to grow into an entity in the medium / large scale industry that
he leads today. The industry and indeed the country, needs many
more of these pioneers.
The three admirable Young ICT professionals
recognized, who are all under the age of 30, were awarded this
prestigious award from amongst the 13 submitted applications as
the most promising among them. An independent expert group that
evaluated the applications, came to the unanimous conclusion
that the selected awardees were the best and the brightest among
the applicants. They stated that they had the potential to make
a substantial contribution to the industry in the years to come.
"The recently concluded National IT-BPO
Leadership Awards was well attended and received by the
industry. The award scheme was instituted to recognize
exceptional professionals in the industry and it did so
rightfully. The award scheme was run through ICTA’s ICT Capacity
Building Programme (ICBP) and all awards consist of a
scholarship to an international training course as well. On
behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Leadership Awards, we
congratulate the awardees, and this inaugural year is the one of
the first initiatives taken by the industry to recognize
significant contributors," commented T. Suresh, Chairman of the
Organizing Committee-IT-BPO Leadership Awards.
