An handicrafts exhibition and fair, now being
held at Ratnapura, will conclude on September 28 offers
handicraft artistes in the Sabaragamuwa Province a marketplace
for their products in their locality and creating a meeting
place for producer and consumer.
The exhibition and fair which coincides with the
annual pageant of the Ratnapura Maha Saman Devalaya will provide
stall facilities to a group of 50 handicraft artistes registered
with the National Crafts Council (NCC) and the Industrial
Development Board said a N CC spokesman.
The Rural Industries and Self- Employment
Promotion Ministry, together with the NCC and IDE, hopes the
exhibition and fair will enable discerning consumers to purchase
a variety of handicrafts items, including handicrafts endemic to
the Sabaragamuwa Province.
Similar to the exhibition and fairs held in
Galle, Kuliyapitiya and Colombo, the Ratnapura Fair and
Exhibition would showcase a wide array of products including
gift and fanny items, batiks, embroidery, lace, indigenous
textiles and garments, home needs as well as food items at
reasonable prices.
The Exhibition and Fair, which is to be held opposite the
Ratnapura Town Hall premises will be open to the public daily
from 10 a.m to 10 p.m.
