UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake and Mrs.
Chandrani Bandara, MP, are scheduled to visit Geneva,
Switzerland to attend the 119th sessions of the Inter
Parliamentary Union.
Assistant Secretary of the United National Party
in charge of Relief and Human Rights, Dr. Jayalath Jayawardana,
M P, has been invited to a hearing before the Committee on Human
Rights of Parliamentarians of the IPU at its 119th sessions. He
is scheduled to make representations on behalf of several
Opposition Members of Parliament whose lives are under threat.
Attanayake will be the chief Guest and Dr.
Jayawardana, the Guest of Honour at the inaugural ceremony of
the UNP branches in Switzerland.
Dr. Jayawardana is also scheduled to meet senior
officials of the ICRC, UNHCR, UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights, WHO, ICJ, ILO and the IOM to brief them about the
present situation in Sri Lanka, on the instructions of UNP and
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
