The gunman who killed UNP MP T.
Maheswaran had LTTE connections, the police charged yesterday.
SSP Anura Senanayake told Thursday’s
Cabinet press briefing in Colombo that preliminary
investigations conducted by the CCD had revealed the suspect’s "LTTE
connections."
"We will question the suspect further
no sooner he recovers from the injuries sustained. He is
presently being treated at the National Hospital."
The suspect lived in Jaffna in 1995
and some information about him has been obtained, he said. "We
are also informed that that the suspects parents had moved to
Killinochchi in 1987 and had been involved in administrative
work for the LTTE."
Over the last ten months the suspect
lived in a house in Wattala and 25 rounds of live amunition were
recovered from the roof of the toilet. The house belonged to a
women called Marina, he added.
Senanayake, denied reports of the
suspect being a former bodyguard of EPDP leader Douglas
Devananda.
