Says won't go all out against the
Govt due to the ongoing military campaign The
JVP yesterday said that Parliament was a hive of waste
corruption and irregularities and no tangible action had been
taken to tackle the crisis.In response to a query raised by The Island,
JVP heavyweight Lal Kantha acknowledged that the pathetic
situation in the House had contributed to the overall economic
chaos in the country, now struggling to cope with adverse
economic conditions.

Delayed rice imports would only help racketeers: Tilvin
The JVP yesterday said that the import of a
large stock of rice to control rising prices would benefit
politically influential racketeers if imports come in just ahead
of the next Yala harvest.JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that the
availability of large stocks would automatically force
debt-ridden farmers to sell their produce at low prices. This
would directly benefit what he called the politically powerful
rice cartel.

The All Ceylon Customs Service Union said an
influential business tycoon imports vehicle components and
assembles luxury vehicles at a workshop in the premises of an
industrial zone at Veyangoda that belongs to the Board of
Investment. Right now there are over one hundred such luxury
vehicles assembled and kept ready for sale at much cheaper
prices than imported vehicles.
