January 21 2008: India can overtake
Australia as the world's top Test team, according to Sourav
Ganguly.
After the controversy surrounding their
second-Test victory, Australia's record-equalling run of 16
consecutive Test wins was brought to an end in Perth on
Saturday.
The world champions still hold a 2-1 lead in the
series, but must quickly come to terms with their first defeat
on home soil since 2003.
And India's outspoken former captain Ganguly is
warning Australia that there is more pain coming their way in
Adelaide.
"Australia is still the number one team in the
world but I think we have a very good side that could be number
one," Ganguly told the Daily Telegraph.
"We have a side which has played better against
Australia than any other side in the world, which is a good sign
for us.
"I don't want to talk about the past but I feel
we were very unlucky not to win in Sydney. We were happy to win
in Perth and we think we can level the series."
The tourists look set to recall spinner
Harbhajan Singh for the fourth and final Test, despite the fact
he is still awaiting a verdict on his appeal against charges of
racism.
Opener Wasim Jaffer could be the man to make way
with Rahul Dravid moving up to three in the batting order.
Australia have recalled opener Matthew Hayden
meanwhile, following his hamstring problems and all-rounder Brad
Hogg is also in the squad as Ricky Ponting's side look to bounce
back with a win.
