St. Joseph’s Girls’ School, Nugegoda won the
all-island under-19 ‘A’ Division Basketball Championship beating
Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena in the final worked off at
Nugegoda yesterday. The winners cruised to a comfortable 22
point win after leading 47-29 at half-time. The final score was
80-58.
Prasadi Fonseka top scored for the winners with
28 points while Solanji Gunawijaya made 25. Jayani Nugi and
Sanduni Perera chipped in with 14 points each. For the losers,
Anjali Ekanayake made 21 points while Sulochana Ratnayake scored
15.
Prasadi Fonseka was named the Best Player of the
final while Anjali Ekanayake won the Best Offensive Player
award. Solanji Gunawijaya was adjudged as the Best Defensive
Player.
By winning the under-19 title, St. Joseph’s
Girls’ School finished off a remarkable year where they also won
the under-15 and under-17 titles.
St. Joseph’s beat St. Paul’s Milagiriya in the
semi-final.
Rev. Fr. Sylvester Ranasinghe, the President of Sri Lanka
Schools Basketball Association was the Chief Guest.
