The Supreme Court yesterday directed the
Attorney General, to investigate how the Asian Broadcasting
Corporating Pvt. Limited had received the news bulletin which
said that some LTTE rebels had entered the village of
Ranminithanne in Tissamaharama and massacred some villagers, on
October 24, last year.
Sanjeewa Jayewardene, Counsel for Raynoir Silva,
Managing Director of ABC Pvt. Limited, said that his client will
corporate with the authorities.
The rights violation application filed by
Raynoir Silva, challenging the revocation of the media licence,
after the broadcasting of this new bulletin will be called
before the Court on March 17, 2008.
The Court said that taking into consideration
the plight of the employees, the State may consider the granting
the licence to the ABC.
Senior State Counsel, N. G. Pulle appeared for
the Media Minister and the Attorney General. Sanjeewa
Jayewardene appeared with Rajiv Amarasuriya, instructed by
Sudath Perera Associates for Raynoir Silva, who had submitted to
Court, an affidavit, apologising for the incorrect statement in
the news bulletin.
The Bench comprised, the Chief Justice Sarath N.
Silva, Justice N. G. Amaratunga and Justice Saleem Marsoof.
