The elephant-human conflict in the North Central
Province and North Western Province claimed the lives of ten
wild elephants during the past two months, wildlife officials
told The Island yesterday (30).
Some had been shot dead by villagers while
others had been electrocuted, they said.
The deaths were reported from the Anuradhapura,
Nochchiyagama, Puttalam and Ritigala areas. Among those killed
were two pregnant elephants, they said.
