Security tightened for school children
from Dinasena Rathugamage – Vavunia Corr

Special security arrangements were put in place for schools and school children’s transport in the Vavuniya town and its suburbs after intelligence services had received information that the LTTE was planning to attack civilians in the area.

Army, Police and the National Guard have been deployed on special duty to provide security to the school children and patrol the town. Search operations were in place to avert any attack from the terrorist group, Vavuniya police said yesterday (30).

Children feared to attend school in the past few days as the LTTE had attacked a number of villages in the district with mortar fire. Since the new security arrangements were now in place children hane no need to be afraid, police said.
