It was sheer delight to hear the Bana preached
by that erudite Buddhist monk, Ven. Prof. Bellanwila
Wimalarathana, Chief Incumbent of Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya,
at Temple Trees on Duruthu Poya Day, (the first poya day in
2008) in the presence of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and all
island SLFP organisers.
While quoting the Buddhist scriptures, he said
that one must be honest and question oneself whether what one
does is correct. Some due to egoism and personal power, force
their opinion or action. One case he mentioned was that of how a
certain politician forced his entry in to a government
institution to threaten the officials but was rewarded
thoroughly by a severe mauling. He now tries to maintain that
what he did was correct.
It would be correct to say that the whole
country endorses the views of the venerable monk and in view of
the numerous letters to the press and editorials, is it
necessary to wait for the findings of a committee? The verdict
of the people has been given through the lips of the much
respected Buddhist priest and it is therefore expected of the
President to act immediately without turning a blind eye or
ignore the voice of the people.
Rev. Sir, Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thero
you have done a service to the nation to expose miscreant
politicians and let others who command the same respect of the
people be emulating you.
